Outline: A former farmhouse located at the southern foot of Mount Asama was renovated into a dual-residence home designed for the owner to enjoy growing and arranging flowers. The elevation difference between the irrigation ditch at the western end and the main house is up to 4.5 meters. The existing vegetable garden had been leveled into a wide, flat area for the sake of production efficiency, resulting in a separation between the living space and the garden. We transformed this area into a garden where a variety of plants can thrive. We moved soil within the property, terraced it into four levels to prevent soil erosion, and created subtle topographical variations to establish environmental conditions suitable for growing different types of vegetation.
