ukigumo/floating clouds
Ukei Shimada/Ukei Shimada Architects
- Outline
- The architect’s private residence is situated on a flagpole-shaped lot in a densely populated residential neighborhood. A dirt-floored area faces the front garden, and the four sliding wooden doors installed there allow the relationship between the interior and exterior to blend seamlessly, creating a sense of depth. The first floor houses private rooms, storage spaces, and the earthen-floored area, while the second floor—which includes the living room, dining room, and kitchen, where the family gathers—features a large, white volume reminiscent of a floating cloud.
