The House of the Outside Within

Outline: A 33-year-old apartment building was renovated to become a residence for art collectors. A red gallery was inserted into a series of living spaces. The contrast with the living space was accentuated by cutting out the landscape beyond through an opening. The gallery is composed of art on the left and right walls and at the end of the front facade. The right-hand wall is swung at an angle to narrow the effective width of the space as it approaches the balcony side, and the scale of the ceiling arch is varied.
