Outline: Renovation of a three-story house in a dense urban wood-frame residential area. While the interior columns and shed framing of the structural members had been assembled in an ad hoc manner, the structural members were made sound by replacing deteriorated members and braces, and steel braces were installed above the bearing walls at the time of completion to reveal the ad hoc axial framing. The claddings are beautifully repeated from the existing claddings to create built-in furniture. The finishes were installed using a dry-fit method of construction with facing materials that do not require layering of materials.
