Atelier in Nakamichi

Outline
This is the designer's studio and residence along the approach to a Shinto shrine. Following the scale of the row houses in the neighborhood, it is a wooden row house with a frontage of 3,080 mm and a depth of 9,555 mm. In order to create depth, no wall is built on the short side, and a series of 120mm square diagonal braces straddle the floors. The north wall is built on a 1,950mm high foundation, and is raised to a height where the diagonals do not interfere with the flow of traffic.
