"This is an expansion of the conference hall of the Kyoto International Conference Hall (8508, designed by Yukio Otani), which is adjacent to the Kyoto International Conference Hall (6608). The expansion of the conference hall was required in order to attract larger and larger events. A new tsuji-niwa (courtyard) was constructed at the junction of the exhibition hall and the new hall, and an attempt was made to harmonize the old and new halls without modifying the existing exhibition hall in any way, such as by aligning the height of the "base".
