TOKUDA HOUSE
OFFICE OF RYUE NISHIZAWA
- Outline
- This 109-year-old two-story Kyoto machiya was renovated into a residence for the owner, a contemporary art curator, and a salon for local friends to gather. The renovation was carried out with reference to traditional Kyoto machiya spaces, such as retaining the existing latticed windows and mushiko windows, replacing the mortar walls with latticed doors, board walls, and mud walls, and reviving the atrium space in the street garden.
