The Toyama Prefectural Museum of Modern Art was closed in December 2016, and a competition was held at the end of 2013 to relocate and renovate the museum with a dual focus on art and design. The museum is located in the Tomiwa Canal Park, north of Toyama Station, with a café, museum shop, and gallery on the first floor, an exhibition floor on the second floor, and a library and media corner on the third floor. A rooftop garden called "Onomatopoeia Rooftop" has been created on the roof.
