Outline
The Kamaishi Nursery School and Kamaishi Daiichi Kindergarten, which were damaged in the Great East Japan Earthquake, were merged into this children's school, and the space between the four volumes is used as a playroom. Natural light pours in between the four overlapping roofs, creating an indoor plaza where children can play even in the cold winter. The pillars are 200mm square and the beams are made of 150x540mm laminated wood.
