DOT ARCHITECTS
Outline
This is a project to renovate a 70-year-old private house into a guesthouse and gallery. The client, who is also an artist himself, has created a "lodging-type art space" in which art works are displayed in various locations throughout the building. By reducing the size of the lodgings to less than 100 square meters, legal issues such as the Building Standards Law and the Ryokan Business Law were resolved. Some of the pillars and beams have been reinforced, and traces of the existing architecture have been retained as much as possible.
