Outline
This reinforced concrete (partially steel-framed) building, newly constructed on the Kyotanabe campus of Doshisha University, consists of the Kotokan (back), which houses the chapel, and the Hikarikokan (front), which houses an exhibition space for materials related to Niijima Jo, the founder of Doshisha University. In order to make the buildings, which stand on two sites across the campus road, appear as a pair, the volume is unevenly shaped, and the gantry-shaped frame is designed to be continuous, incorporating the campus walkway as part of the design.
