This project involved the reconstruction of the head office building of Shimadzu Corporation (founded in 1875), which has its head office and factory in Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto. Among the various buildings for the development and manufacture of analytical and measuring instruments, medical instruments, and aeronautical and industrial equipment, Shimadzu was required to have a head quarter function as a global company. A spacious entrance court is located on the east side of the building to welcome visitors, and a courtyard is located above the main hall on the first and second floors, with a collaboration space and a refreshment space facing the courtyard.
