This facility for animal breeding and research is located in the Faculty of Agriculture, Kinki University. We aimed for an appearance that blends in with the natural surroundings of the campus, which is rich in greenery including virgin forest. The walls are made of 100 mm deep expanded metal baskets laminated with wood chips left over from the plywood production process. This wall surface improves the heat insulation performance and reduces the air conditioning load. Under the condition that windows cannot be installed to maintain a constant breeding environment, the volume of the building is shifted to reduce the sense of oppression, creating a space under the eaves and an external space for installing equipment.
