Outline
This project involved the renovation of Maruya Department Store, which opened in 1961, into a tenant building following the withdrawal of Mitsukoshi. The project was based on earthquake-resistant renovation, but the floor space was increased without changing the floor area by rearranging the staircases that had been added as a result of the many extensions. On each floor, there is a blank space named "Garden" which is not a commercial area and can be used by anyone. The walls are greened with plants such as Iratobikazura, which is suited to the climate of Kagoshima.
