Masahiro Harada+MAO/MOUNTFUJI ARCHITECTS STUDIO
Outline
This is a weekend house located in the middle of Izu mountain. On a site with a view of the Pacific Ocean to the south and a rich natural environment surrounded by forest to the north and west, the house is geometrically composed of two rectangular volumes that are orthogonal to each other with their centers shifted. The lower volume extends towards the sea, while the upper volume extends towards the forest. Each of them faces the two landscapes of the sea and the forest through the terrace with a mass. The exterior walls, roof, and floor are all made of white marble, and the closer they are to the edge of the sea and forest, the more polished they become, and the more they blend into the environment.
