Outline
This is the first work of a house experimenting with rectangular openings in a buffer space built in Sapporo. The floor level is lowered by the freezing depth, and the living and dining rooms with high ceilings are placed in the center of the house, with buffer spaces at the north and south ends. In the buffer space on the north side, a staircase room and its landing are used to create a cross-sectional development of individual living spaces. The buffer space on the south side is a light-filled atrium, which functions as a light source, ventilation, a cold air stopper, and a flow line. The rectangular opening in the buffer space on the south side allows the ever-changing light to penetrate indirectly into the living and dining rooms, and the state of the light is reflected in the rooms.
