Outline
A 115-year-old machiya in Kyoto was renovated to adapt to modern life. The distinctive facade of the machiya was replaced with an overdoor for the garage, and top lights and a vaulted ceiling were installed to prevent the long, narrow space from becoming dark. The structural reinforcement was supervised by Yu Suzuki of Kinozumai Kobo.
