MET ARCHITECTS / NAWAKENJI-M

Outline
This one-story wooden (partly steel-framed and partly steel-concrete) roadside station is located in Ikeda Town, Gifu Prefecture. Adjacent to the town-run Ikeda Hot Spring, the station houses a shop selling local agricultural products, a restaurant, and a footbath. Small shops of different sizes are arranged in a gantry arrangement with a large roof. Diagonal columns are placed around the perimeter to receive both axial and horizontal forces. The space under the eaves, called the street, is used as a space for eating and drinking and as an extension of the shops.
