EKO BIRCH SHELTER

Outline
Two boxes of 9.9m2 are connected by an external deck. The exterior walls, roofs, floors, and fittings of the boxes are made of inexpensive water-resistant birch plywood, which is assembled from standard size 4×8 plates without cutting. The pillars, beams, and decking are made of cedar from Kuma-cho, Ehime, which was processed in Kobe beforehand. The construction was completed in five days by local carpenters, volunteer carpenters, students, and other volunteers. Constructed by the Kansai Architects Volunteer "500,000 yen Project (Temporary Shelter)" funded by the Nippon Foundation ROAD Project "Support Activities for the Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami Disaster". A building permit has been applied for as a permanent building.
