- Outline
- The “Former Nara Prison” (completed in 1908, designed by Keijiro Yamashita), a designated Important Cultural Property, has been redeveloped into a hotel and museum. Under the concession (public facility operation rights) system established by the PFI Act, Hoshino Resorts operates the facility while the land and buildings remain the property of the national government (Ministry of Justice). Taking advantage of the “Haviland System,” in which cell blocks radiate out from a central guardhouse, the cell blocks were renovated into guest rooms. The Third Division Ward was designated as a preserved building.
