Outline: This hotel was created by renovating the Administrative Building—one of the three structures comprising the former Yokohama City Hall (Issue 6011 of this magazine), designed by Togo Murano, which also includes the City Council Building and the Citizens’ Hall. To replicate the composition seen in Murano’s works—where a large central volume is surrounded by human-scale spaces along the windows—a new atrium was created. The design makes use of existing spatial resources, such as relocating and recreating the staircase that was originally in the Citizens’ Hall and preserving the clapper-style floor tiles in their original positions.
