Outline: Rebuilding of the Community Center in Sumita Town. Due to the aging of the existing tourist center (in the far left background of the photo), the two-story wooden facility was renovated. It houses the ticket office for the “Takikan-do” tourist attraction, as well as dining and retail spaces. Since the site is located on a slope, the foundation was raised by 2,500 mm and integrated with the exterior staircase to also serve as a retaining wall. To accommodate the new construction, the site needed to be widened by 1,000 mm. Following discussions with the town, a town road was decommissioned, and the site was expanded using that land as a service road.
