Outline: Renovation of a super sentō located in the suburbs of Mito City. The client, who owns several facilities and apartment complexes in the neighborhood, participated in “Partners,” a hands-on program run by the architect. After exploring options such as developing a vision for the area they own, they decided to begin with the renovation of the super sentō. On the second floor, the distinctive space with a ceiling height of 6,150 mm was utilized to create a lobby featuring a grand staircase where local residents can linger. The circulation sequence between the bathing area and the facility entrance was organized around the semicircular shape of the staircase leading down to the baths.
