Roof Park Project

Outline
The “KK Line (Tokyo Expressway)” was constructed by the Tokyo Expressway Company by reclaiming land from rivers and canals. It opened to traffic in 1959 (with the section between Tsuchihashi and Shirobe Bridge opening as a one-way road) and was fully opened in 1966. Subsequently, due to the redevelopment of Nihonbashi, the relocation of the Nihonbashi section of the Metropolitan Expressway underground, and the construction of the Shin-Kyobashi connector road, its role as an expressway diminished, and it ceased operations in April 2025. Currently, the “Roof Park Project,” a project to redevelop the site into a pedestrian space, is underway.
