- The former Hokkaido Main Government Building (red brick), built in 1888 (designed by Harujiro Hirai, Civil Engineering Division of the Hokkaido Prefectural Government, and others). The brick exterior walls and octagonal tower roof were preserved and renovated to meet modern earthquake resistance requirements. New technologies were introduced, such as pre-stressed exterior wall reinforcement through PC steel rods inside the brick walls.
