Kyoto City University of Arts and Kyoto City Senior High School of Art
Inui, RING, Fujiwalabo, o+h, Yoshimura Design Collaborative
- Outline
- The project involved the relocation of Kyoto City University of Arts, located in Oheda-Kutsumigake-cho, Nishikyo-ku, Kyoto, and Kyoto Municipal High School of Arts and Crafts (formerly Kyoto Municipal Douda High School of Arts and Crafts), located along the Kamo River in Dote-cho, Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto. 8 buildings were constructed across 3 city blocks, and a design team consisting of 5 companies worked together to develop the project under the "under one roof" system. The design team, consisting of five firms, proceeded with the project under the "under one roof" system, in which all members think together. Referencing elements of Kyoto's urban structure and the joubou system, the team used "streets," "under eaves," "through and through," and "inner garden" to create a unity and diversity similar to that of the city of Kyoto.
