Masdar City, Masdar Institute

Outline
A huge urban development project with a zero-carbon goal planned for the suburbs of Abu Dhabi, the capital city of Abu Dhabi. The building envelope is covered with Breeze Soleil, which controls solar radiation and heat gain, and the streets are connected by shades to function as a buffer zone for the thermal environment. PRT (personalized transportation) was introduced for transportation, and the project was intended to be a place for empirical research on urban units where the spatial configuration itself would function as an experimental device for sustainability. However, the Lehman Brothers collapse delayed the project, and it was revised to low-carbon, mass transit. 5% of the project was built in 2016, and it continues to be built.
