China Central Television (CCTV) Headquarters
OMA
- Outline
- The CCTV headquarters building, which is part of the 599,000 m2 program, is 234 m high and has a floor area of 473,000 m2. Rem Koolhaas, citing the WTC, proposed a horizontally continuous form that is not only oriented vertically, as in the old skyscrapers, but also horizontally by combining the two towers. This loop also corresponds to a public loop around the building for public access. The coarse and dense grids on the facade reflect the stress levels. The headquarters building was completed in 2008, the year of the Beijing Olympics, but construction was delayed due to a fire in the hotel building in 2009 and completed in 2012.
