The Menil Collection

Outline
The "Solar Machine," a light control system covering the ceiling, was jointly developed with Arup and is composed of "leaves" made of 25 mm thick ferro-cement. By blocking direct sunlight into the interior while allowing it to diffuse in, the system creates a natural transition in the space that surrounds the viewer and the collection.
