- The building is symbolic as Japan's first skyscraper. The building prompted the deregulation of the Building Standard Law, including the elimination of height restrictions and the shift to a floor-area system, and 70 percent of the site area was used as open space, marking the beginning of the high-rise era that followed. To enhance earthquake resistance, Kiyoshi Muto's flexible steel-frame structure was adopted in place of a rigid structure, and new technologies were introduced in various fields.
