3-Dimensional Minimum Houses

Outline
The third work in the No series (1950), which explored the industrialization of housing, overcame the narrowness of the limited site (13 tsubo) by creating a stairwell. The bookshelves that straddle the floors skillfully connect the spaces, achieving both functional differentiation in the plan and independence in the section. The functional and economical space encourages a change in the way of life through the use of seating. The construction cost was close to that of ordinary houses of the time, while reducing the amount of housework.
