NAKAMURA TOKICHI BYODOIN

Outline
The renewal of the café and shop of Nakamura Tokichi Honten, a tea merchant in Uji, to create a place where a diverse range of people can interact, based on the theme of the change in users from mainly tourists to local residents due to COVID-19 and the shift to a non-contact type of store. The site between the Uji River and the main approach to Byodo-in Temple is home to five buildings, including the 120-year-old main building of the Kikuya Manbekirou Ryokan, formerly known as Seifu-kaku. One of the buildings was demolished, two were renovated, and the remaining two are scheduled to be renovated after 2024.
