THE WOOD

Outline
A six-story building complex (apartment and office) in Ota-ku, Tokyo. The building was constructed by reusing nine existing cast-in-place concrete piles (the existing frame was completed in 1986) and reducing the weight of the new frame by using wood. The first basement floor is made of reinforced concrete, the first and second floors are made of steel, and the third to sixth floors are made of wood. The weight of the building was reduced by 42 tons compared with the existing structure.
