KISO TOWN OFFICE

Outline
The structure consists of four sets of repeating "De-beam units," which refer to the traditional style of "De-beam-zukuri" found in machiya houses in Nakasendo inn towns, supporting a gabled roof with a 1.5" slope. The Nakasendo Komichi, a corridor with repeated beams, runs along the longitudinal direction of the building. From the basic design stage, the Kiso-cho Wooden Housing Promotion Council (Kishikyo), a group of carpenters and others from Kiso, participated in discussions on the selection of materials, specific construction methods, cost balance, and other matters, and undertook all of the woodwork.
