RENOVATION OF OTEMACHI BUILDING

Outline
Renovation of the Otemachi Building, completed in 1958. The building is composed of volumes from the era when the height limit was 31m or less and the floor area ratio was 1,000% or less. The north face (right photo) is approximately 200m long, and the exterior walls are covered with frames with motifs corresponding to the elements of the streets that each face touches, aligning the scale with the streetscape. The exterior design emphasizes the deep window openings by utilizing the out-framed post-and-beam structure of the existing building within the limitation of not exceeding the exterior wall line of the existing unqualified (wall setback in the district plan).
