SOMPO MUSEUM OF ART
TAISEI DESIGN PLANNERS ARCHITECTS & ENGINEERS
- Outline
- Sompo Japan Insurance Inc. headquarters building designed by Shozo Uchida (former Yasuda Fire & Marine headquarters building, completed in 1976). The Seiji Togo Memorial Sompo Japan Nipponkoa Museum of Art, which opened on the 42nd floor as Japan's first high-rise art museum and operated for more than 40 years, was spun off as a six-story art museum on the company's premises. The curvilinear shape of the building is based on the motif of the soft lines of Seiji Togo's works in the collection. By applying vertical stripes using a decorative bead, we created an exterior that does not give the impression of welded parts, and aimed to create a museum that resembles a lump of sculpture.
