TOSHIMA CITY TOKIWASO MANGA MUSEUM

Outline
This is a project to recreate the wooden apartment building "Tokiwa-so" where many manga artists lived, which was demolished in 1982, and turn it into a museum. We interviewed the residents of the apartment and conducted a literature survey of manga and essays about the period (1953-1962) when Tezuka Osamu and other famous manga artists lived there, and created a reconstruction drawing. Based on this, we designed the building. The building was painted with an aged paint to give it the appearance of having been inhabited by manga artists for about 10 years, giving it a texture typical of Tokiwa-so.
