KAMIKATSU ZERO WASTE CENTER

This public facility is located in Kamikatsu-cho, Tokushima Prefecture, which became the first municipality in Japan to declare a "zero-waste" policy in 2003. The facility consists of a waste separation center, a reuse shop, a community hall where visitors can learn about zero waste, a hands-on hotel, and satellite offices for companies and research institutes working on environmental issues. The town of Kamikatsu has an annual income of 2.5 to 3 million yen from the sale of recyclable resources, and the new hotel and office/laboratory will be used for zero-waste training, tie-ups with companies, and tours. This building will become a center for ecotourism.
