KYOTO CITY MUSEUM OF ART(KYOTO CITY KYOCERA MUSEUM OF ART)
AOKI・NISHIZAWA JOINT VENTURE MATSUMURA-GUMI SHOWA SEKKEI
- Outline
- Renovation and extension of the Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art (opened in 1933), the oldest existing public museum building in Japan. The west side of the museum's main square was excavated in the form of a slope to create a new entrance from the basement, which was once used as a footstool, and to create an east-west through-line from there up the stairs to the central hall and through to the Japanese garden on the east side. In addition to the above, the museum underwent a full range of repairs and renovations, including the addition of a contemporary art exhibition room and a storage room, the upgrading of the museum's barrier-free facilities, the renewal of equipment and machinery, the revitalization of the courtyard, the construction of new amenity facilities, the repair of spalling tiles, and the replacement of the roof.
