MAIN BUILDING OF DAIMARU SHINSAIBASHI STORE

Outline
The main building of the Daimaru Shinsaibashi Store, which was constructed in four phases from 1922 to 1933, was reconstructed by preserving the entire exterior wall on the Midosuji side in its original position. Interior materials with a high degree of design were reused as much as possible. The exterior wall of the former main building was horizontally divided into three sections: the lower section was made of stone, the middle section was made of tile, and the upper section was made of pseudo-stone. The sections between the layers were reinforced with seismic isolators so that they would slide during earthquakes.
