JOSHU TOMIOKA STATION

Outline
Joshu-Tomioka Station of Joshin Electric Railway was rebuilt as the nearest station to the Tomioka Silk Mill, which is aiming to be registered as a World Heritage Site in 2014. The station was rebuilt with an eye to its role as a transportation facility for tourists, who are expected to increase in the future, and for local residents. Referring to the wood-frame brickwork of the Tomioka Silk Mill, the bricks were stacked so as to sandwich the braces supporting the steel columns. The bricks are stacked to form benches and walls so that people can gather around them.
