IIS ANNIVERSARY HALL, THE UNIV. OF TOKYO

Outline
The first supersonic wind tunnel experimental building in Japan (Building 60), constructed in 1960, was renovated into a hall, gallery, and laboratory. The south side of the building was renovated in the first phase (2010), and the center and north sides were renovated in the second phase (2012). A GRC curtain wall was installed in the entrance hall, which was enlarged on the former site of a spherical air storage tank. The building was renovated to reinterpret and utilize the characteristics of the existing architectural spaces, such as the large laboratory space and the sound deadening tower.
