RENOVATION OF SAWAMURA HOUSE

Outline
The Sawamura Residence, completed in 1915, in Shimoda, Shizuoka Prefecture, was renovated and converted into a tourist exchange facility. The existing sea cucumber walls were repaired and retrofitted for earthquake resistance, and the existing beams and original wooden frame windows were restored. The storehouse was structurally renovated with the Izu stone remaining, and converted into an exhibition room. A public toilet was newly added next to the building.
