Outline: Renovation of a farmhouse. The client’s parents’ home, which had stood on the property, was renovated so that the client’s family could gather there and the client could use it as a “third space.” On the first floor, two of the four traditional Japanese-style rooms were converted into a living space, and by removing all interior partitions, a large open-plan room was created. On the south side, the formal reception room was converted into a dirt-floored area, and a concrete block perimeter was added to extend the veranda.
