The Dirtfloor at Tokoname

Outline: This is a house that doubles as a gallery in Tokoname, a town known for its pottery. The earthen floor and the dwelling are nested together, and the roof of the first floor is supported by the pillars and beams of the dwelling, forming an intermediate area. The eaves of the earthen floor surrounding the residence are 4.7 meters at maximum, and the roof ridge is offset from the center of the space. The roof slope differs between the northeast and southwest sides, but the top of the roof is aligned at 1,600 mm above the floor of the residence. The two layers of fixtures create a space that can be changed in a variety of ways.
