Outline: A townhouse adjacent to the Kusakabe family house (Kusakabe Folklore Museum), a nationally designated important cultural property, was renovated for integrated preservation and utilization. because of the takayama city preservation district for groups of traditional buildings, basically no changes were allowed to the exterior, but alterations were permitted to restore the past condition and to parts of the house that were not visible from public roads. therefore, the original odo (large door) was reused and installed at the entrance, which had been a lattice door.
