MACHIYA house in NISHINO-TOIN

Outline
This is a renovated machiya (traditional townhouse) that used to be a Buddhist robe shop selling kesa (robes) and Buddhist altars. The lattice, an element of the machiya, is used on the facade, floor, and ceiling. The physical permeability of the lattice is used to perform various functions, and at the same time, the visual permeability is used to express the depth of time.
