Rebirth House

Outline
A warehouse built in the Meiji era was renovated as a meeting place for local people, including farmers. The roof tiles and hut framework of the warehouse, which collapsed in the Great East Japan Earthquake, were preserved, and the first floor was used as a meeting place and the basement as a wine cave. The outer perimeter of the building is covered with perforated bricks, allowing light from the interior to leak into the surrounding area. A detached house on the site was renovated as a guest room, creating a place for people to gather throughout the site.
