PASSIVETOWN BLOCK NO.5
HK ARCHITEKTEN/HERMANN KAUFMANN+PARTNER ZT TAKENAKA CORPORATION PLACEMEDIA(LANDSCAPE)
- Outline
- The Passive Town project, which began in 2011, has reached a milestone with the completion of Block 5, following the earlier completion of Blocks 1 through 4. The design is a collaboration between Hermann Kaufmann, who is based in Austria and has designed numerous mid- to high-rise wooden buildings, and Takenaka Corporation. Block 5 consists of three 6- to 7-story residential buildings (from right to left in the photo: Buildings M, N, and O), a multi-story parking garage, and a community center (Stube), with each building connected by a corridor. By constructing these buildings at a medium-to-high-rise scale—taller than the existing Blocks 1 through 4 (which are up to four stories)—the project has created extensive green spaces at ground level, which are open to the local community as a park.
