National Taichung Theater
Toyo Ito
- Outline
- Taichung has been published three times in Shinkenchiku (1101, 1407, 1703). All of them feature photographs of the construction site, and all of them detail the building process of the reinforced concrete three-dimensional curved surface continuous structure (catenoid) using the truss wall method, which is a development of the geometry proposed in the 2004 Ghent Cultural Forum competition proposal. At the same time, it is an afterimage of the overwhelming impression of the construction of an unforgettable primitive form of architecture. The designers of the building were quoted in the magazine as saying, "A watery surface of reinforced steel, a cavern of rough concrete. The poem that emerges from the site, evoked by the unusual construction, as revealed by the designer in the magazine, echoes.
